A generation tussle ?

For the older generation the new generation always appears less commited, less patriotic, too materialistic , too self-obsessed and what not. This is completely accepatable ,hell i don't know how pissed off i would be if my kids say that they're off to Mars for the weekend or something :-P...neway the point is Generation Gap's not only about 'amachya weli asa navhata' and 'ata te diwas gele' though somewhat irritatingly its definitely the most visible manifestation of it...:-P,:D. Its about knowing that because the circumstances are like A to Z different the things that were rational and 'good' in all senses of the word in those days might not be 'hip' or 'trendy' or whatever it is now.So in those days we as kids might have made the same calls that our parents did ,but the fact that we don't do that today itself means not that our mentality is different but we have adopted to this world just like they had done long bac and lets face it , its definitely won't be easy to adopt to or to assimilate something new in later life, right?

But hey, things are not that simple. We don't evolve in 50 years.Man if it took 5000 years for 'a tail' to vanish , think about all the cultural and social aspects that are unmistakably so closely tied up with our perceptions of 'being ethical' and 'being moral' that anything anyone does thats 'out of the ordinary' as they call it these days is frowned upon.

A scenario : group of 3 adult couples discussing about the 'apparent escapades' of the daughter of one of their NRI friends, They all agree that she is very intelligent and hardworking and homely (SHIT ,why is this still looked upon as a necessary quality of a girl...neway thats another hot( :P ) topic...lolzzz ) ,you know the whole nine yards.. :P( man why are such discussions invariably about girls? guess intelligent and hardworking together is too much for a guy to handle neway :P).So she has done engineering(s/w of course :P) ,has a good job.Fine things going smoothly right, now here comes the kicker. An year later, she realised that she no longer liked what she was doing she felt lost and helpless wondering whats going on.So she's decided to become a doctor(man a BIG KICK even for me).Thats it."This is completely stupid and irresponsible and ACHARAT",the unanimous agreement between all.Hell, even I agreed a bit....

But now,Im thinking whats wrong?I mean lets keep the money issue aside. She is at least honest enough to listen to her 'inner self' or whatever , she definitely takes her life seriously her career seriously so how come she's IRRESPONSIBLE or insane? Hell I don't know how many of us are honest enough about what we like and whether we are really happy in doing what we are doing. We hate slogging , we hate mugging up ,we hate those 8 hours of boring collages and everything, yet we do it.Some times we don't have a choice ..we have a responsibility to do something ,some of us might be accountable for others and hell we choose again and again the things that sometime later are going to make our life easy.Theres nothing wrong in this, not at all. Come on we even think twice before lying just so that our 'afterlife' in heaven is peaceful. So yes even though 'sacrifice' is a big word for all this , it somehow seems fitting,i dunno it does.So even the girl in the story is sacrificing something, maybe her belief of not to listen to herself honestly, wassay??

So here's my point, generation gap is a definite two-way traffic ,but not that both are going in opposite directions , both are heading the same way , its just 'the divider' is too big........yessss managed a bit poetic twist to end it pretty rudimentary though......lollzzzz....

ha ek no topic ahe... ani tya mulila kharach parat 10 varsha abhyas karaychi eecha ahe ka?:P

newayz...
about evolving in 50 years... well havn't we evolved beyond imagination socially and culturally??... i mean, the norms of the society have changed. We have been gripped by, so called, "modernism" (wherein everyone can be independent and yet we have to live in a society which inherently means dependency !!!... newayz.. just an offshoot) ... so this modernism... hasn't it totally changed the ways we think??... it IS a 2-way lane with both going on opposite sides (coz as u said, it difficult for the elders to assimilate something new !!)

eg. Today back-answering to parents is not so uncommon and we don't think twice before doing it... but was it that way 50 yrs ago??.. ofcourse this is going in opposite directions...

(newayz... the girl is really brave!!:D.. and ur views on it, even better !!!)

good point put across mate.. ok lets not get judgemental bout this and think ... actually the so callde generation gap wil always be there bcuz its all about adapting to new norms of the society which are changing pretty rapidly ...and to be honest...most of the ppl follow so called "modernism" style just bcuz majority of ppl are doing that and not bcuz they think it is good...

ok .. about this gal... man who is she ?? with al due respect to privacy, pls sang mala tujhya olakhichi asel koni tar.. nakki bolaychay mala.. hehe... well nothing bad bout doin wat SHE actually wants,bt i ll always say "do it in your own time" ..not at the cost of parents money or their tense situation such as "kay honar hya poricha konas thavuk"...hell no...

so basically.. analogy to wil be like this ... we are in same lane and direction .. its just that our travelling speed varies drastically !!! :D

As the above wise people say, generation gap will be present always. But I see changes happening. I see many kids around myself talking to their parents with free mind that even I can't imagine for myself. So, thats also gap I think.

Instead of talking to that girl, I would like to talk about "qualities of girl" for marriage. Dude, That is something very tough to change in spite of years of generations. We still want "Gharguti mulgi" as life partner when we call ourselves as "modern". We want girl as employee but expect her to give whole salary to husband.
Let it be. That issue is never ending. But congrats for starting such issue !

hi salil.....
i must appreciate the smartness u have shown here. its really gr8 using a fake example of girl to express ur hidden desire of becoming a doctor. well wit this u can know the reactions of others on this issue so it wil be easy for u in future to handle the thing. but if u ask me, ther is nothing wrong giving a shot in that field too beacause i see ther is a lot of scope for graduates who r doc + engg (and topper too) hehe.....

jokes apart the topic is really good and definitely deserves a thought.
i would like to handle this all psychological thing in diff way. what i want too say is opinion clash is not between two generations or something like that but its more about two individuals
lets take example ur stating some of us may think that the girl is an ass who cant even decide what she want.life is not a c prog where u can go for trail and error and somehow finally get o/p. and some may think whats wrong in it. things change, everybody cant be sachin to know that he wants to be cricketer in his childhood only.
well this could hav been stated more effectively wit a more appropriate example but i m not getting one now.
what i just want to say is in each generation there r going to be n kind of people wit diff opinions some will be broad minded and some may not.
so ther is nothing like generation gap but its about individual. its about whether u r able to think in diff way, r u able to accept change.
ok i dont know how it sounds probably this all may be crap but as u were so much insisting for comment i had to write something...

Well... free thinking and living... the girl is an epitome of such things... but what makes her so shallow -minded ..... ? And how does the scenario relate to "Generation Gap". .? :)

(Salil chukNe awghaD ahe tyamule elaborate karave....)
Well talking of generation gap, I think it is always there..... because man is reluctant to change when it is beyond the comforts of his beliefs and lifestyle. Things change and it is hard to accept them isn't it....?
Also the "Mind-Fabric" (fabricated word ahe -'manobhoomi' hya shabdavarun :P) of a child and his parents is bound to be different, because of the social and technological changes that have occured through the decades.
Also, there is a difference in the financial conditions in which the parents and their children have grown up. So that engg-to-medical-girl type behavior will not be approved of (atta thoDafaar sambandh kaLtoy..)....
In the end, what I think is that everybody is correct in their own pants .... and what is needed is better understanding amongst the two (virtually-arguing-disagreeing) sides... no?

my perception..
its called backtracking..
once you travel some depth, and somehow realise that another branch earlier on, would have lead you where you want to go, you backtrack...
few things involved here are:
how deep are you?--- as for the past generation, they are too deep into their trees to even care about backtracking(their theories are too deep rooted)... it is always an exhausting procedure... and more importantly, it requires GUTS to say that you walked down the wrong branch and lost a few resources.
But its great to hear that ppl realise that and backtrack before its too late coz then we might follow the greedy algo for eternity probably because of lack of vision(horizon problem :p) (ya i probably read too much of DAA)

But the second issue and more troublesome to me is... "where DO you want to go?"
and does this second branch necessarily lead to your "eldorado"?
what if you change your mind and decide to go to "utopia" instead?
you might want to soooo many things... and dont knw where to kick off...? probably this is where that "impulse" thing comes???
